How I started working remote as a 19-year-old woman
Today the job market has changed so much from where it was even a few years before. I can't say much on where it was 10 years before as I was too young at that age to even have a job, but I can talk about the last few years and maybe give other girls my age the encouragement to take the leap and start online.
Growing up, I always knew I wanted to start my own business or businesses. I wanted to make my own hours, take control of what I'd sell and build something that benefited people's health and wellness. The problem was I had too many interests. I wanted to start my own sustainable clothing brand, record music, and be able to travel and live a life that was on my terms. One I could fully enjoy. So, I looked into starting a business, and I realized it was not something that would be plausible for me right now as I did not have space for stock, did not want to take out huge loans, and wanted to learn more about running a business before I started my own.
Next, I looked for jobs in retail and in sales. I worked door to door sales for a local waterproofing company, better than pest control, but it was just not the right fit for me. Not to mention I was working with a predominantly male team, and some of the things I learned just did not feel right to me. I knew there was a better way to do sales that did not involve wasting hours a day knocking on doors that most wouldn't open and were very wary when they did and seemed to think that because I was a woman I did not know anything about basements and waterproofing. (And yes, it was very hard for me to bite my tongue at this, even though it's not their fault that they don't know I grew up as a hardworking farm girl whose bare feet have probably touched more dirt than their boots). I knew there had to be a better way, I just didn't know what yet.
While I was still doing door to door, I saw an ad on my Instagram of a girl my age working remote and showing other girls how to do the same, I clicked send message and was surprised that it was indeed a real girl on the other end, as she sent a voice note. Her profile was also verified as well, which can mean a lot, had a clear photo of her as her profile picture that aligned with her posts and branding, so everything looked legit. Of course, I still had questions and skepticism, but after watching the masterclass, and going on a zoom call with this young woman, I felt more at ease and more intrigued with this business model. What do you mean I can make higher rate commissions, all online, opportunity to rank up and never down, and not have to worry about inventory and taking payments and all that?
To be honest I almost didn't join. I almost listened to the other voices on the internet who have never actually been a part of this business and let them tell me it was a pyramid scheme, and you couldn't use affiliate marketing as a main source of income. But looking at the info, and yes Enagic is very straightforward with the information both on their products and their commission rates, I decided to give it a shot. Worst case I thought, I just have a product I can use for my health, but I knew that if I worked hard and kept going, I would eventually start making sales. More than that though I knew this was the community I wanted to be a part of, and the products were the ones I wanted to promote, not for money, but for health and freedom.
And that is where I am today. I still work part time as a barista at a local cafe, one my family started and owns, and that helps fuel my growing remote business, which will in turn fuel my other dreams and goals. It's not about taking it easy. It's about finding the right vessel for you to put your time, energy and money into to get the most out.
